Bought new clothes (and face towels)

Light purple heart hoodie with zipper and front pockets – $9.99 from $16.99
Brown hoodie with applique owl and embroidered and appliqued leaves over the front pocket – $5.99 from $10.99
Navy blue ‘boyfriend cardigan’ (says so right on the tag!) – $11.99 from $20.99
Two super-soft face towels – $0.99 from $5.99

Aside from the face towels, guess who has new school-friendly clothes? I avoid wearing office-work clothes to school, only because hoodies are just so much more comfortable when sitting in uncomfortable lecture hall chairs and writing on a cramped surface.

Out of curiosity, who’s idea was it to market a ‘boyfriend cardigan’? Because I’m 100% sure that I have never seen my boyfriend wearing a cardigan like that. Also, the store had pink ‘boyfriend cardigans’ available. And it wasn’t a pink that would be flattering on anyone.

Waiting for a clean home I also went to gather more food for my stick insects. The problem with the fact that they now eat is that they also produce an absurd amount of frass (poop). Although I suppose it is to be expected, they are rather small insects right now. Also, did you know that a single caterpillar can produce up to a pound of frass in a week? Crazy, no? But I cleaned out their jar today, gave them some more food and they’ve haven’t touched the new food at all (it was even from the same plant, same area, everything!). Granted, they seem more active when I’m sleeping (silly bugs) so I guess I should expect to see nibbles in the morning instead of right now.

Buying clothes because I can’t just walk around naked (duh). https://imaginarysunshine.com/index.php/2010/03/27/buying-clothes-because-i-cant-just-walk-around-naked-duh/ https://imaginarysunshine.com/index.php/2010/03/27/buying-clothes-because-i-cant-just-walk-around-naked-duh/#comments Sun, 28 Mar 2010 02:44:13 +0000 http://imaginarysunshine.com/?p=3160 Went clothes shopping today… Under the guise of wanting things that would be appropriate as office wear. Even though I am well aware that I’ll be dressy casual for (at most) a week and then revert back to tees, jeans and cardigans or hoodies. But both make me look awesome, so yay.

New dress. Ends right at my knees. $17.50 (original price, $35).

Close up of pattern. Reminds me of leaves. <3

New dress, ends mid-thigh (requires tights or leggings, definitely). Not sure why it ended up being so ‘glowy’ in the photo, but all the pics I took of it ended up like this… =/ It’s an off white at the top (almost a cream) and feels like a dream! (Hah, I rhymed.) $12.50 (original price, $25).

Retail therapy and ‘dressing my age’ https://imaginarysunshine.com/index.php/2009/11/30/retail-therapy-and-dressing-my-age/ https://imaginarysunshine.com/index.php/2009/11/30/retail-therapy-and-dressing-my-age/#comments Tue, 01 Dec 2009 03:28:30 +0000 http://imaginarysunshine.com/?p=2863

Store #1: 4 pomegranates for $8.99 (~$2.25/each)
Store #2: 2 pomegranates for $0.98 (~$0.49/each)

All pomegranates were approximately the same size/weight, they were all also from the same state in the US (according to the label) and were all found in nearby stores in the same city where I live. Yet one store has them priced at $2.25/each and the other has them for $0.49/each. Not quite sure why on earth would drive stores to price the fruit so high. I mean, $0.49 for a decent sized pomegranate is an okay price. The same price for a single pomegranate, I could get… a breakfast sandwich at my current fast food restaurant of choice on my university’s campus. Or a freshly made sun-dried tomato bagel and a bottle of 100% fruit juice. Which, of course means that comparison shopping this holiday season includes not only electronic stores, clothing stores and my favourite book stores, but also grocery stores.

That being said… I’ve been shopping for clothes lately. I’ve finally been taking people’s advice (Clay, K, K, D, J, everyone…) and attempting to get clothes to dress more ‘my age’. Because someone commented on the fact that all they’d seen me wearing for the last two weeks have been cutesy cartoon-character screen printed tees or my pink cherry printed hoodie (which apparently screams being 16 – which is sad, I didn’t own that hoodie when I was 16). And so, new clothes. And you know what’s kind of fun? The fact that clothes stores have rather nice sales during the holidays. Need to take photos, but I will tell you all what my sister said when she saw the one that I bought today from Sirens.

“It looks like something for clubbing. Or a mock-corset. Or something that you’re supposed to wear underneath something else.”

Because, honestly, I’ve noticed that the whole ‘dressing my age’ thing does not work well when the majority of the clothing stores that cater to the people who are approximately my age tend to wear things that slow off cleavage like there’s no freaking tomorrow. And while I may not post photos of myself online, I’ll just have you all know that there’s not much to show off at all. Which makes the whole ‘dressing my age’ thing difficult when it makes me look like I’m dressing up (however, my sister does insist that I do look nice in the new shirt – however she may be biased due to the fact that she is related to me, but also she may also be truthful due to the fact that she is my older sister and therefore obligated to generally make fun of me if I’m wearing something that makes me look relatively dorkish), so I’m not sure which way I’m going to go with that. But so far on the quest of dressing more for my age…. 3 new shirts (over the last two weeks) that are all neatly hanging in my closet right now (it’s weird having clothes that I actually need to hang up in my closet rather than cramming it all in my wardrobe…).

So, do tell, what’s something new that you’ve bought in the last week? What did you wear when you were late teens/early 20’s? Share!

Back-to-school retail therapy https://imaginarysunshine.com/index.php/2009/09/05/back-to-school-retail-therapy/ https://imaginarysunshine.com/index.php/2009/09/05/back-to-school-retail-therapy/#comments Sat, 05 Sep 2009 23:03:58 +0000 http://imaginarysunshine.com/?p=2637 So this morning, my mom wakes me up at 7am to go shopping with her and my sisters as there was a sale that was starting at 7am (but we didn’t get there until around 8am). In my sleep deprived state, I agreed (!!!), but I ended up with some nice new clothes. We later went out for lunch (picked up my dad at home and dropped off everything we bought – including $30 worth of snack bars… It’s totally back-to-school time when all types of snack bars are on sale at the store!). Lunch consisted of dim sum at the regular restaurant that we go to – they know us by name and will comment if one of my sisters (or me) isn’t there.  I also bought some new notebooks for school and my sister picked up a small purse-sized notebook for her NaNoWriMo planning.

Oh, and I love sales. Except, you know, when I’m waking up at 7am for it. But in the end, it’s pretty worth it… Especially when I wanted to get some new jeans anyways and ended up with all of this…

Skittles encourage awesome study habits? I think so. https://imaginarysunshine.com/index.php/2008/12/13/skittles-encourage-awesome-study-habits-i-think-so/ https://imaginarysunshine.com/index.php/2008/12/13/skittles-encourage-awesome-study-habits-i-think-so/#comments Sun, 14 Dec 2008 01:38:01 +0000 http://imaginarysunshine.com/?p=1119

Chocolate Skittles. Seriously. I have never seen them before and then I was wandering a dollar store in the mall and there they were. In all their shiny, chocolatey glory. All for a dollar. Other interesting things include a clothing store that was going out of business in which my sister and I went through the clothing and actually managed to find things that we liked and in the right sizes. She got a light blue skirt (that I picked out) and I got a light lime-ish green skirt with a black pattern. Definitely spring/summer wear, unless I can find something to keep my legs warm. And other than that… I’m going to go back to studying memory for my psychology final.

I hope everyone has/had a great Saturday.
