I’ve been super busy with school and then finals (which ended last Thursday!). Since the last time I blogged, I had:

  • Written my last pathophysiology midterm
  • Completed & got my professional portfolio back (93%)
  • Did my presentation on MRSA[1. Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus]
  • Handed in and got my last paper back (95%)
  • Completed clinical (and passed – it’s a pass-fail course)
  • Attended pharmacology seminars (so boring…)
  • Wrote five finals

I’ve waiting on my final grades to come back, but I had done a little bit of math work and if I had gotten 0% on all my finals, I’d still be sitting at a 65% GPA so… I’m not entirely too worried about passing or not! It’s nice to finally get a decently long break (just over three weeks) of doing nothingness. Or rather, doing nothing related to nursing and nursing school!

My first day off from school, I went to the mall at 9:30am and was out by about 11:00am. I got almost all of my shopping done in one day, didn’t spend as much as I thought I was going to (always a good thing!). The last bit of shopping I needed to do (I needed candy canes) was done at the dollar store near my house. Of course I ended up buying more than a $1 box of candy canes… I also bought holiday-themed cupcake liners, translucent gift bags (for cookie gifting) and Christmas-themed and Angry Birds colouring books (not for myself…). I love the dollar store by my house though, the ladies that work there know me by face now so we chat a bit whenever I’m at the register or poking around the store.

Because it’s the holidays, I’ve been doing a lot of baking, which is both good and bad. I somehow got roped into doing a cookie exchange at my summer work place (where my mom works), so I got to bake 6 dozen cookies and I get 6 dozen cookies back, each dozen is made by someone different. So today I got a bunch of delicious things. Some had chocolates and marshmallows, some you could just smell the ginger. Delicious! I’m quite pleased, although I did notice that I had the best presentation overall. I made dinosaur and dinosaur print sugar cookies:

Holidays are better with dinosaurs. #fact

Cookies are done :)

Teehee.

The recipe is from Betty Crocker’s The Big Book of Cookies that I got for my birthday back in November but I did adjust it a bit (taking out some ingredients because I didn’t have them on hand) and they still turned out pretty good. The icing is just royal icing (alternatively, you can buy premade icing that comes in containers that look like school glue bottles). I was originally going to individually ice the cookies and then flood them to give them the nice icing layer, but I added a wee bit too much water to my powdered sugar, so it was too watery. So instead, I just picked up each cookie, lightly dip the surface into the icing and then let any excess drip off before putting them onto the wax paper to dry. It worked out well and was a lot faster than individually icing and flooding 6 dozen cookies.

In other baking news, I’ve also made 2 dozen shortbread (will make more!) and have also made one and a half dozen chocolate fudge cupcakes. So much baking! I love baking though, and I don’t often get the chance (or have the time!) to do it during the school year. Especially not with nursing school.

I’ve also spent some time this past weekend with a lovely group of ladies who also share a love of dollies. We had fun exchanging Santa Swap presents. I got a new mug and a bunch of lovely miniature ornaments, chocolates and stationary. I gave a box of chocolates, some handmade things for the dolls, a cute toque with a pompom, a miniature art easel and a Littlest Pet Shop Teensies set that was very well received! I just love shopping for other people, it’s a lot more fun (and easier to spend money!) when it’s not for me.

But today Value Village was having a 50% off clothing (and some other departments) sale for those who have membership cards (and of course, I have one). I went with my sister, who was going to look for pants. I went through housewares, crafts and toys before making my way to the clothing section. I ended up getting 4 cardigans (some looked like they’d never been worn – two still had original store price tags) and 1 sweater for $17 before taxes. My sister got a pair of Guess jeans for $3 (remnants of the original paper tag were still on the jeans, they didn’t look worn at all!). There’ll be other 50% off days – last time there was one, I focused only on pants and it’s a good thing too because I find myself getting overwhelmed if I go and really look through more than one clothing section. There’s just too much stuff everywhere!

Overall it was a good shopping day at VV. The only sweater I bought today is a fairly thin one (100% cotton, probably more meant for spring or summer) that’s light green and from Banana Republic – I generally don’t find Banana Republic at low prices at VV or in good condition, but this one fit the bill as it was originally $4.99 (so down to $2.50) and it was in great condition with no pilling whatsoever. One of my cardigans is 100% cream-coloured lambswool from Great Britain and it was my most expensive buy today at $5 (down from $9.99). I love cardigans, but I’ve had to get rid of some recently due to them being too threadbare and really well-loved. I’ll have photos of what I bought after everything’s gone through the wash!

Lastly that’s new is that I actually redeemed some points! I think most credit cards attached to banks have this, but whenever I use my credit card, I got a point for every dollar that I spend. I’ve had my credit card since I was 19 (and could have my own), but I hadn’t used any points at all. There were bonus points for the first month that I had it, bonus for my first transaction, etc. I ended up redeeming for gift cards (none of the merchandise options seemed good). I ended up redeeming for a $100 gift card for Sears (as my half of my joint present to my mom for Christmas – my sister is chipping in $100 cash as my mom wants to buy a new vacuum cleaner) and a $50 gift card for La Vie en Rose (for me!) and I still have points left over. I’m pretty sure I’ll end up redeeming more points late for more gift cards for myself (I really want to get an e-reader and I’ve been eyeing the Kobo Glo but I don’t have enough in gift cards just yet), alternatively I’d redeem for “financial rewards” and just get it in cash for general shopping purposes. It’s kind of like getting “free money” – which is nice considering I never leave a balance on my card so they’ve never gotten any interest from me. Always very nice to be responsible!

Oh, and I did my nails for the first time since August (when I started school). It’s nice being able to keep nail polish on for more than 5 days (seeing as how I can’t have polish on my nails at the hospital). Very nice indeed!

4th Year Rambles https://imaginarysunshine.com/index.php/2011/10/09/4th-year-rambles/ https://imaginarysunshine.com/index.php/2011/10/09/4th-year-rambles/#comments Mon, 10 Oct 2011 06:34:11 +0000 http://imaginarysunshine.com/?p=3754 I’ve been sending a lot of time hitting the books since the term began.

It’s my last first term of this degree (fingers crossed). I have four classes. Four classes that I didn’t always like. I liked the idea of them. I liked the descriptions of them. I hated the amount of work that each professor made his class sound like (I only have male professors this term). But now I’ve found that I like my classes. Some that I even love. (It may also help that some of my profs are very funny. And that one of them has a Scottish accent – he’s not much to look at but the accent helps me to stay awake because I need to focus when he says words that are pronounced differently in the UK than it is in Canada.)

I had my first midterm exam on the last day of September. It was bad because I had to run across campus to get there on time. I normally walk and can get there on time. That Friday, I had gotten out of my previous class on time, had to briskly walk to the building. There were exams already being handed out, I had to find a seat, get my pencils, eraser and pens out. Oh, and my student card. I always forget that I need that out during an examination (especially when requested). I also hate that photo on my student card (but who doesn’t?). The results of that midterm came in just this past Friday. I did better than average (the average being 75%). I’ve developed better study habits since my first year of university – actually reading ahead, reviewing notes after classes, studying ahead of time, studying with like-minded people.

I’m working on getting together my documents for my applications for next year as I’m applying for even more schooling. I want to do another Bachelors degree (nursing). I’ve ordered high school and university transcripts. I’m waiting on those to arrive in the mail, I’m also waiting on reference letters from my volunteering place. The application process is stressful at times – needing to gathering all the documents and references and write letters of intent and essays. But this is something that I really want to do. For most of what I can remember back, I’ve wanted to become a nurse. So even though the application process is stressful and the waiting period will be stressful as well, I’ll need to suck it up and get through it.

In other news, I’ve recently acquired a vintage 1972 Blythe doll. I know a lot of people who read this blog aren’t doll people. But it’s a nice hobby to have, I’ve met some fantastic people through the hobby. I even attended a convention for Blythe in June 2011 (it was in Portland, OR – my first solo trip anywhere and my first vacation [it was for 4 days] in years). So despite what people might think about adults having dolls and collecting them – there’s nothing wrong with it. I figure as long as I’m not pretending that they’re my children (that would be my stick insects, thank you very much) or actually alive, it’s all good. I liked dolls as a child and I played make believe with them.

It’s an extension of my childhood that goes well with the fact that I still have a teddy bear that stays on my bed. But yes, I’ve acquired a vintage one (all the rest of my Blythe dolls are modern productions, all produced from the 2000s onward). And I’ve already been informed by my parents that I’ll be receiving another two this year (one for my birthday and one for Christmas).

So other than school, volunteering and doll(s), I haven’t been doing much lately. I haven’t had time for crafting, which I hope to change soon. But I did have time to bake recently (no photos as said baked goods were consumed rapidly by family members and myself). I weighed myself recently and after getting all wide-eyed at the number (thanks, Mister Scale), I’ve decided to go on a bit of a diet. Nothing too extreme, I’m going to try my best not to get completely obsessed with it (something I fell into the habit of when I was in middle and high school and essentially stopped eating, and I also dropped a lot of weight doing that). I do need to cut out fast food though (plus it’s expensive $) and to eat more fruits and vegetables (hello carrot sticks). We’ll see how it goes! I’m also planning on increasing my daily water intake as well and overall just increasing the amount of good, healthy foods. I suppose I should buy whole wheat bagels instead of plain white ones now then…

Study study study! https://imaginarysunshine.com/index.php/2011/04/12/study-study-study/ https://imaginarysunshine.com/index.php/2011/04/12/study-study-study/#comments Wed, 13 Apr 2011 03:35:05 +0000 http://imaginarysunshine.com/?p=3637
nom nom noms

Good flipping grief, there’s only so much stupid study questions I can go through before I want to break down and cry. My first final is tomorrow, worth 45% of my final grade (which is actually low compared to all of the other classes that I’m taking this term – everything else is 50%, 50% and 60%). Three cheers for everything boiling down to 2 hours to 3 hours?

Such is the life of a university student.

On the brightside, my lunch today consisted of a hot chocolate and a vanilla with sprinkles donut? Excellent dietary habits, I have them.

Catching up and all that jazz https://imaginarysunshine.com/index.php/2010/09/23/catching-up-and-all-that-jazz/ https://imaginarysunshine.com/index.php/2010/09/23/catching-up-and-all-that-jazz/#comments Fri, 24 Sep 2010 02:58:55 +0000 http://imaginarysunshine.com/?p=3444 Wow, I don’t blog often at all. Some new things that have happened since my last blog entry…

About the bugs…
I bought a butterfly net at an educational toy shop for my entomology class (choice between writing a lab final or doing an insect collection? I know what I’m going for!). There’s a bunch of frozen insects in my freezer right now, I just got the pins today. I also had my first official entomology lab today and it went fantastic. They have some amazing models for teaching all of the specialized mouth parts of insets and it’s pretty awesome.

About the study group…
Oh dear… I joined a study group for ecology. Mostly because ecology is majorly kicking a lot of peoples’ butts at the moment (last year, the midterm average was below 50% and had to be very scaled in order to get a 60% average). So I joined a study group – there’s 7 other people and we’re all pretty worried about ecology (hence the study group being formed) – so it’s pretty awesome, like-minded people who all offer a different perspective on the material. The nice thing about the ecology is that it’s mainly open-ended questions for the midterm and final – meaning as long as we can logically justify our answers, it’s okay. I think. I don’t know, ecology is a major pain right now. I mean, the material is fascinating (not as interesting as entomology though!) but it’s definitely a course that requires higher concept thinking than any other course that I’ve taken so far at the university level.

About the new appreciation for Timmy’s…
So I really only have one day a week that’s long right now (Wednesdays will be even longer, just three times a semester) and that’s Thursdays because I have early morning classes followed by a break, then another class, then a break and then a lab before I go home. So I now have a new appreciation for the only close place that serves food to those buildings where I have my lecture and lab in (besides a certain coffee shop that I loathe). Even though they serve coffee at Timmy’s, I must say that their sandwiches are delicious and their breakfast foods? Wonderful. Especially when I’m eating breakfast at 9:30 even though I’d been up since 6am. They have this lovely breakfast bagel sandwich, it’s bacon, egg, lettuce and tomato (with cheese!) and I had it on the cheese bagel. Delicious. And now, I am hungry.

What’s been new with you?

Showing off https://imaginarysunshine.com/index.php/2010/01/05/showing-off-2/ https://imaginarysunshine.com/index.php/2010/01/05/showing-off-2/#comments Tue, 05 Jan 2010 21:15:43 +0000 http://imaginarysunshine.com/?p=3008 First off… Heartbreakee.net is up and running and open. Please go take a look (I beg you).

And…

Food! Be jealous! (Courtesy of dinner made by my mom.)

Seriously.

You have been warned.

My mom made New England style clam chowder last night! Look at that! She recently fell in love with clam chowder after she had it for the first time at Earls a little bit after Christmas so she ordered it again at a restaurant that we went to on Saturday (January 2nd). But the thing is, it’s pricey to always get it at restaurants, so my mom looked up recipes and combined two recipes together to get all the ingredients that she wanted in there (clams, bacon, celery, potatoes, whipping cream, milk, etc.).

Oh, it’s also the first time that we’ve ever had bacon in my house. I bet everyone in hell is feeling pretty chilly right now.

So here’s the clam chowder (we had an entire pot full, this was all that was left over, a small bowl):

Oh, and my mom also made bread. I’m not a fan of whole wheat bread usually, but I love freshly baked bread.

It looks like Christmas is coming! https://imaginarysunshine.com/index.php/2009/12/23/it-looks-like-christmas-is-coming/ https://imaginarysunshine.com/index.php/2009/12/23/it-looks-like-christmas-is-coming/#respond Wed, 23 Dec 2009 23:44:46 +0000 http://imaginarysunshine.com/?p=2924 Day two of my winter holidays! I only stepped out of the house to go to the bank (yay, monies!) and to the store (to buy sprinkles, guess who was running out of red?). Once I got back, I started doing some baking. I  made 4 dozen shortbread cookies were made today… Granted, my first batch don’t look that great (heh), but I had two (so right now it’s really just 46 cookies, rather than 48…) that didn’t look that great, and they taste awesome. I’ve decided to make sugar cookies tomorrow, because I don’t feel like washing the mixer so many times today (have I mentioned that although I love baking, I’m rather lazy?). Most of these will be sent with my mom to work tomorrow, hopefully there will be enough for everyone that’s going to be there. And what kind of person would I be if I didn’t share a cookie photo? Awful, that’s what. So here’s a photo of my ‘good’ batch of shortbread (the ones that didn’t look funny, haha):

Yeah… Shortbread. Such a staple for the winter holidays, at least in my house (or, at the very least, for me!). And remember when I mentioned how no one in my family wanted to help me out with setting up the tree? Yeah… About that… So over the past weekend, while I was busily studying for an exam, and essentially locked myself in my room to get away from my family (who can be so disruptive when I want to study!) and then they set up the tree. There’s even a colour theme (silver and white, besides the lights). Here are some pictures of the decorations on the tree:

We have a set of ornaments that have each of the ‘Twelve Days of Christmas’ in these beautiful porcelain figurines. Here are the two turtle doves.

When we bought a new angel for the top of the tree, my mom bought a set of ornaments from the same company where there are mini angels that we can hook up to the lights so the ‘candle’ light that they’re holding can light up as well.

One of my favourites… A glass hummingbird with gold accents.

Retail therapy and ‘dressing my age’ https://imaginarysunshine.com/index.php/2009/11/30/retail-therapy-and-dressing-my-age/ https://imaginarysunshine.com/index.php/2009/11/30/retail-therapy-and-dressing-my-age/#comments Tue, 01 Dec 2009 03:28:30 +0000 http://imaginarysunshine.com/?p=2863

Store #1: 4 pomegranates for $8.99 (~$2.25/each)
Store #2: 2 pomegranates for $0.98 (~$0.49/each)

All pomegranates were approximately the same size/weight, they were all also from the same state in the US (according to the label) and were all found in nearby stores in the same city where I live. Yet one store has them priced at $2.25/each and the other has them for $0.49/each. Not quite sure why on earth would drive stores to price the fruit so high. I mean, $0.49 for a decent sized pomegranate is an okay price. The same price for a single pomegranate, I could get… a breakfast sandwich at my current fast food restaurant of choice on my university’s campus. Or a freshly made sun-dried tomato bagel and a bottle of 100% fruit juice. Which, of course means that comparison shopping this holiday season includes not only electronic stores, clothing stores and my favourite book stores, but also grocery stores.

That being said… I’ve been shopping for clothes lately. I’ve finally been taking people’s advice (Clay, K, K, D, J, everyone…) and attempting to get clothes to dress more ‘my age’. Because someone commented on the fact that all they’d seen me wearing for the last two weeks have been cutesy cartoon-character screen printed tees or my pink cherry printed hoodie (which apparently screams being 16 – which is sad, I didn’t own that hoodie when I was 16). And so, new clothes. And you know what’s kind of fun? The fact that clothes stores have rather nice sales during the holidays. Need to take photos, but I will tell you all what my sister said when she saw the one that I bought today from Sirens.

“It looks like something for clubbing. Or a mock-corset. Or something that you’re supposed to wear underneath something else.”

Because, honestly, I’ve noticed that the whole ‘dressing my age’ thing does not work well when the majority of the clothing stores that cater to the people who are approximately my age tend to wear things that slow off cleavage like there’s no freaking tomorrow. And while I may not post photos of myself online, I’ll just have you all know that there’s not much to show off at all. Which makes the whole ‘dressing my age’ thing difficult when it makes me look like I’m dressing up (however, my sister does insist that I do look nice in the new shirt – however she may be biased due to the fact that she is related to me, but also she may also be truthful due to the fact that she is my older sister and therefore obligated to generally make fun of me if I’m wearing something that makes me look relatively dorkish), so I’m not sure which way I’m going to go with that. But so far on the quest of dressing more for my age…. 3 new shirts (over the last two weeks) that are all neatly hanging in my closet right now (it’s weird having clothes that I actually need to hang up in my closet rather than cramming it all in my wardrobe…).

So, do tell, what’s something new that you’ve bought in the last week? What did you wear when you were late teens/early 20’s? Share!

I can has good mark? https://imaginarysunshine.com/index.php/2009/11/12/i-can-has-good-mark/ https://imaginarysunshine.com/index.php/2009/11/12/i-can-has-good-mark/#comments Fri, 13 Nov 2009 05:30:19 +0000 http://imaginarysunshine.com/?p=2815 I generally try to eat remotely healthy. I do try. Or sometimes, I just lapse and don’t eat a thing, at which point, if someone notices that I haven’t been eating breakfast or lunch, they’ll start asking me about my weight and if I’ve been losing a lot of weight lately (because, you know, I can’t be just busy… granted, that’s the excuse I’ve used for years for not eating, bleh). Anyways, this is the crap that I’ve eaten today:

Breakfast: orange juice (with pulp – bleh), 2 previously frozen blueberry waffles
Lunch/dinner: (this is where I got really bad…) 1 burger, fries, 7-up
Pre-exam munchies: fruit snacks, Swedish berries and Swedish fish, Aero
Post-exam munchies: cookies! of the chocolate variety

Let’s see… Where did I go wrong? Oh yeah. The whole two meals in place of 3 kinda sucked today. Then again, I spent ~6 hours studying my little heart out on organic chemistry problems (I had my last midterm today! Yay!). Of course, it’s just 2 hours after my midterm had finished and already there are people talking on the online discussion boards about how difficult the very last question was.

There was 5 pages of question (7 total – 1 title page and 1 periodic table, which was useless, by the way). The very last question was worth 12 marks (the exam was worth 55 marks, I believe, with two questions being worth 12 marks each). And the thing is, even people who I know had no trouble with the material was saying that the midterm was difficult. Also, that the mechanism required to be drawn for the very last question actually had 20+ steps to it and we have to draw in arrows and all lone pairs of electrons, so it takes a long time to draw out each structure as it goes through all the changes. I go through about half of the mechanism before it was only 5 minutes left, and I was definitely not drawing neatly either. But a lot of other people found it be very difficult as well (considering the very last question resembled nothing of what we had ever encountered, not even in the practice midterms, which are supposed to reflect the type and level of difficulty that we were supposed to be expecting  to see on the midterm), so hopefully it gets scaled waaaaaaaaay up. Because my poor little grade can’t take another hit (I don’t think).

So I’m currently at home (obviously) and eating dinner (sort of… it’s leftovers from what the family ate, plus a glass of juice). I’m also watching my printer spit out page 2 of my 3 page joint lab project. Because I have a colour printer, I’m printing out of the images, while my partner-in-crime (R) is printing out pages 1 and 3 (as she hasn’t finished her portion of the work yet, tsk!). But now I only have 1 more biology project (besides the one due tomorrow, as that one is essentially completed), 1 more term paper (psychology, yay for babies! ← can you believe I just wrote that?) and 1 lab final (bleh) before finals. And then it’ll be winter break (blissful, wonderful winter break). At which point, I will promptly go to sleep and absofuckinglutely be hibernating and only be accessible to the world in 2010. Well, I might be not hibernating long enough to plan out what I want to do in February (during my rather extended reading break from school, 2 weeks off! I so want to go somewhere, but no one seems to want to go anywhere or do anything, boo). And may blog about my hibernating state from time to time.

I’m not even sure where I want to go, but I do know that I want to go and do something. Maybe a small road trip, or just going to see a bunch of museums and sight-seeing type of things, head out to a beach or just something. Yes, I do realize I just said that I wanted to go see the beach in February and that BC-weather will not be very nice at that time of year… But I still want to go! What’s the point of having two weeks off if I don’t go and do something besides staying home and studying?

Anyways… I hope that everyone had a good/hopefully awesome Thursday! I’m off to go and watch General Hospital and Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice… Then it’s off to do a bit of cleaning before I go and crash and sleep. And tomorrow’s my birthday party (!!!), so I may or may not blog during that, chances are I’ll save the blogging until after things die down a bit (do things die down during sleep overs though? Somehow I highly doubt it…). Or just tweet a bit, since I’ll be playing music off of my laptop (three cheers for wireless internet, how I appreciate that router!).

Have an awesome Friday, everyone!

Monday, Monday, why can’t you be Tuesday? https://imaginarysunshine.com/index.php/2009/10/26/monday-monday-why-cant-you-be-tuesday/ https://imaginarysunshine.com/index.php/2009/10/26/monday-monday-why-cant-you-be-tuesday/#comments Tue, 27 Oct 2009 06:13:37 +0000 http://imaginarysunshine.com/?p=2771 Georgina – acetaminophen = paracetamol. It’s the same chemical compound and it’s commonly known as Tylenol in North America (also, a major component in a lot of cold and influenza medications). (And for those curious, since I did mention acetaminophen as one of the two drugs that I have abused before in the past – no, I did not do it on purpose, it was one extra dosage in a 24 hour period; and yes, it will fuck up your liver if you take too much. So don’t do it!).

I haven’t spoken to S since Saturday, I expect to see her tomorrow so I’ll see how she’s doing then.

Happy Monday everyone… It pissed rain all morning long (and once it was around 11am, it was bright and freaking sunny). Not cool, considering I was dressed for the cold, windy, rainy weather and I had on multiple layers. And the windchill? Sucked. In the last 24+ hours, I managed to cause a lot of inexcusable damage to my relationship with Clay. Which I’m not proud of, at all, and essentially am kicking myself over because I was being very, very, very, very, very, very (very x ∞) stupid. Kind of like ingesting 18g of pure caffeine in under a 48 hour period, but so much more emotionally draining. And without the use of a hospital. And intravenous fluids. Just saying.

My sister J called me up this afternoon and right after saying “Hi!” she tells me that she stopped by this store during her lunch break and saw this particular brand of yarn and in a particular colour and told me to buy it as her birthday present. No please, no thank you. Sigh. People get demanding with family members, don’t they? I said maybe (even though I only have a vague idea of where the store is… sort of) and that I would try. I think she took it as a yes. So guess who’s buying sock yarn for her sister’s birthday present…? Yeah, that’s right. Me. Oh well, she’s my sister. She only has one birthday per year, right? (Unless we’re going by the lunar calendar as well, in which case she has two. But then so do I – only my parents ever remember when those are though!

D (the other sister) was really awesome today! She came home and called from the door “I have a present for you!”. She stopped by an organic foods store (had to specify – did you know they sell organic clothing now? Made me go ‘WTF?’ when I first read the label on a shirt that said ‘100% Organic!’ – does that mean they only oil the machines with organic oil? Inquiring minds want to know! Or at least this one does.) and came home with a 1kg bag of organic crepe mix. Yum! She knew I was having issues coming up with what I wanted to serve for breakfast for my little sleepover birthday party and I originally wanted to get pancake mix. Instead, she bought home a kilo of crepe mix (much more preparation work in comparison to store-bought pancake mix)… And she also ate a danish on her way home from work. Teehehe.

I think after the term is done (or after I’m done my cellular biology course), I’m going to plant a million trees (or at least one) somewhere. I’ve been printing the lecture slides because my prof goes way too fast for me to be able to keep up with writing my notes and there’s so many diagrams that it’s so hard to draw them all before he’s moved on. So I’ve been printing them. My one-inch binder is looking rather full now… Whoopsies. And it’s only unit 5 (of 8!). So definitely planting a tree. And recycling my notes.

And I have a new theme header/colour scheme… Hopefully you’ve noticed. I wanted a change from all the pastels (which, I realize, nearly all of my themes since the conception of Imaginary Sunshine have been pastels!). Chances are, before November is over, there will be a new theme up. Probably in pastels. Or something closer to it.

Anyways…

Questions:

  1. What are you planning on dressing up as for Halloween (this Saturday, kids!)?
  2. What is your absolute favourite type of candy?
  3. What was your least favourite candy to receive when you went trick-or-treating?
  4. When is the last time that you went trick-or-treating?

My answers:

  1. Previously, was not going to dress up for Halloween. And I’m still not. But I do have a Halloween-esque outfit idea… But if I told you, you’d probably go “TMI!”. Which is it. I’ll leave you to ponder that.
  2. Skittles! Skittles! Skittles! (And, on occasion, chocolate – Aero, please!)
  3. Sometime in high school with K – her neighbourhood was the best. My neighbourhood? Not so much – people are stingy around here.

If it looks like and *flies* like a pineapple… https://imaginarysunshine.com/index.php/2009/06/23/if-it-looks-like-and-flies-like-a-pineapple/ https://imaginarysunshine.com/index.php/2009/06/23/if-it-looks-like-and-flies-like-a-pineapple/#comments Wed, 24 Jun 2009 03:13:41 +0000 http://imaginarysunshine.com/?p=2437 My coworkers (of the non-administration variety) all have a sort of bond and, for the most part, get along great. But they’re also big on joking around and that occasionally includes me. Which is fine… Except when I get an orange thrown at my face (happened last year). Which still gets brought up from time to time.

So today, because the Powers That Be decided there was cause for celebration, there was pizza lunch. Which is always nice, considering it’s a change from my leftovers from dinner. So at 11am, there were a lot of people in the lunchroom where all the copious amounts of pizza boxes from a local restaurant were piled up high. Since I had started work today at 7am (as opposed to my regular 8am start), I took lunch earlier as well. Some of the guys from the floor were there and already eating away at one of their slices while there was this one guy who was picking toppings off of his pizza.

The olives from the Greek? Taken off. Pineapple from the Hawaiian? Removed.

All these toppings were piling up onto his plate, along with the crust.

I asked if he had something against pineapple, and he said that he just didn’t like it (but liked ham portion of the pizza). One of our coworkers sat down across form him (but next to me).

So, at first, he fake-throws a piece of pineapple at me, and throws it at the person who just sat down. But the second one? Not-so fake-throw. I was just happy that I didn’t wear a white shirt today. Third and fourth were fake throws. The fifth to seventh pieces were not. I managed to duck those ones though.

Not only have I had an orange thrown at me at work (last year), I’ve had pineapple too. I got back at him by allowing him to think that I had tossed his cell phone out of the open window (I had placed it into a pizza box). Perhaps it was a little cruel – a little bit of emotional turmoil in exchange for a piece of fruit hitting me in the shoulder but…

C’est la vie!
