I remember going boxing day shopping and the only things that were really &#8216;on sale&#8217; were Christmas decorations, fake trees and lights. Which is where my family got our (lovely 7 and a half foot) tree (that no one could be <em><strong>bothered<\/strong><\/em> to help me set up this year), pretty much all of our decorations (not including the ones that my sisters and I made in our elementary school years) and all of our Christmas lights as well. It&#8217;s nice, especially since it&#8217;s not like they can really find people to buy that kind of stuff after December 25th and it&#8217;s usually inexpensive compared to the original price.<\/p>\n<p>But the original tradition of Boxing Day is where the people who are more well-off (i.e. employers, upper-class\/upper-middle class, eccentric billionaires) give things like food and money to those who aren&#8217;t so financially blessed (i.e. employees, lower-class, servants, maids, the guy standing on the corner with a hat out and and toothy smile). Funny how we forget those kinds of things while people wake up at 4am for a sale that starts at 6am in hopes of saving a few hundred dollars on that brand new television that they <em><strong>must<\/strong><\/em> get. To be fair, I sometimes don&#8217;t remember those who are less fortunate and I admit it. Today, however, I headed out and gave an undisclosed amount of money to the food bank since I couldn&#8217;t remember what kinds of foods that they said they wanted in a recent newspaper article and I figured it&#8217;d be better if they picked out what they wanted to purchase for their food hampers themselves.<\/p>\n<p>And before anyone starts thinking that I&#8217;ve gone <em>soft<\/em> or anything, I headed to Michaels after that with my sister and we did our shopping there. She bought over $100 worth of yarn for around $35 (cotton, wool, merino, alpaca, nylon, so much yummy yarn). I hit up their Christmas sections. I got 2 packages of Christmas-themed cards, 8 photo holders that I&#8217;ve been eyeing for the past month, small ornaments that I&#8217;m going to be turning into earrings and a package of recipe cards.<\/p>\n<p>So I guess in a way, I did my act of kindness today for those less fortunate while also shopping for things that I&#8217;m going to be using (perhaps I don&#8217;t <em>need<\/em> to be able write Christmas cards or make another 20+ pairs of earrings, but I can afford to spend a little to fund my hobby, which makes me happy) since I like consumerism and all that, to some extent.<\/p>\n<p>Questions:<br \/>\n1. Did you do anything nice for someone out of the goodness of your heart this past week? (Please note: <em><strong>not<\/strong><\/em> shoving your younger\/older sibling or a parent into snow does not count as a good deed.)<br \/>\n2. Did you do any Boxing Day (or whatever it&#8217;s called in your country) shopping today?
