Saturday date night! Sunday parade day!

Hanging out with Clay was fun. He drove around a lot just for me though, I feel bad about that. But I had a great time last night. We had dinner while talking to his parents, his brother and his brother’s fiance (and later, his brother’s friend). Erm… I didn’t do a whole lot of talking. It may come to a surprise to some people, but I get incredibly shy/quiet around people who are new to me. So I didn’t do a whole lot of talking, instead I just ate, drank (iced tea, mmm!) and listened. We played video games later, he explained the concept of a game that he’d been playing lately and just hung out and had a good time. It’d been a while since I’d gotten the chance to just have some alone time with him, since he switched shifts, so I was really happy that we got to spend the time together. ♥♥♥

I woke up at sometime past 7am (but before 8am). And I totally thought that I was going to be able to stay up so I turned my alarm off. Stupid decision #1 for today. I had to be up, eaten breakfast and totally ready by 9am, when my friend C was going to pick me up. Umm… See, I woke up when my dad opened the room to my door and asked if I had plans to go anywhere today because I had a friend standing at the front door. Whoops…

So, half-asleep and not really making a great impression, I wander to the front door and inform C that I’ll be about 10 minutes. And then start the rushing. Change clothes, actually remember to put on socks (I forgot and had to go back to my room to get them), comb my hair, brush my teeth, grab money (for food) and filled my water bottle. I paused long enough to tell my parents that I was not going to be home for lunch and then they told me that they wanted me home for dinner.

I apologized (more than once…) to C for, erm, sleeping in. Heh, whoopsies? But we had an awesome time. We headed out and walked along the beach while we were trying to find a good seat for parade. We ducked into a coffee shop when we were first in search for food. And then this man walks into the (very crowded) store and sits down at an empty chair (it was ‘very crowded’ in terms of the line) and announced to the entire store that everyone looked like movie stars and that we should all spare a nickle to him. One of the people working there told him that he should leave. And then he went on about how he had nothing left to live for and that all of the people there had hundreds of nickles and could afford to give him some money. A woman offers him a quarter on the condition that he leaves and he takes it.

At that point, while coffee shop was giving us plenty of entertainment, it was rather crowded. So we took a short walk to a hot dog stand and both bought lunch there. There were also a lot of police blocking off a huge area. And it wasn’t for the parade – we later found out that they were blocking off the area because there was an unexploded firework and they needed to have an area of about 100 yards blocked off with police everywhere. We went on our merry way at that point to find someplace to sit and watch the parade. We did manage to find a fabulous spot that C spotted that was in the shade the entire time and we had loads of stuff being tossed at us from the people on the floats and the people in the parade that were dancing about. I’m so glad that I didn’t pull out my camera to take photos because a lot of people that were in parades had water guns and were spraying out into the crowds. I would have cried if my camera got water damage, so while I regret not getting some great photos, the water was just unpredictable. There were a few times that I got rained on and I had no clue where it was coming from. There was also this random parade spectator who had a large water gun and was spraying people that were in the parade, it was kind of odd though.

Overall, it was a wonderful time and I had a great time hanging out with C. Plus, I got some freebies as ‘loot’ from the parade, which was a nice little bonus.

Caity – Thanks for the link. I really want to try making that teasecake now! I think I’ll try blueberries instead (my freezer’s full of them right now).

I hope you all had a wonderful Sunday! Did you do anything exciting and fun?

Good bye, July. Hello, August!

I found some down time, so I’ve been blogging a little bit.

My friend’s birthday/sleepover was fun! We watched this action movie (Eagle Eye) which was actually quite good. Maybe I just like the whole car crash, plane crash, gunfire type of thing. In movies! Not in real life. Thank goodness…

Photos of my friend’s gifts are up on my crafting/writing website – Chelle-Chelle.com where they take up two entries. One is a hat that she probably won’t even consider wearing for more than a second until it gets remotely cold around here (hello autumn?). It has cooled down considerably yesterday and today. It’s gotten a lot cooler and I actually needed to sleep with a blanket yesterday. Granted, it was was a thin travel blanket, but it’s backed by something that’s a bit like fleece, so it was kept me moderately warm. I saw her friends that I rarely see, mostly because I attend a different university then all of them… So there was a lot of ‘let’s tell Michelle some school-related stories!’ moments, which was entertaining. I’d tell them about my school, they’d tell me about theirs. It all worked out quite nicely.

My new Blythe doll (Love Mission!) did arrive yesterday. My sister D called me while I was at work to tell me that she signed for my “stupidily expensive” doll. She put the package in my room so my dad wouldn’t see it and freak out over me spending (my own) money again. My dad’s really amused with Sophie though, he thinks that she’s really neat because of the changing eyes. My new doll is still in her box because I didn’t have the time to pull her out and savour the whole unboxing moment. Not today either, I don’t think. Maybe tomorrow, but definitely by Monday. I have decided to name her Belarus. I wrote about her arrival over at Little Miss Sophie.

I’m going to be hanging out with Clay later today, so that should be fun. I’m so tempted to call him up and be like “I’m bringing my dollies with me!”. But I’ve decided to not be completely doll crazy today (key word: completely). I have no clue what we’re doing today or where we’re going… I’m just waiting for him to wake up! He’s still on graveyard shift so I know he does technically need his sleep but… it really is too bad that he puts his phone on silent when he goes to bed, or else I’d call or text him until he wakes up (lovingly, of course).

Anyways… I’m going to go and probably do some crocheting. I’ll hopefully catch up with everyone’s blogs… eventually? I think the only way I’ll manage that is if everyone stops blogging for about a week or so, then I’d get all caught up.

Hope you’re having a wonderful weekend!

Plans, plans, plans

When did I get a social life with actual plans and where can I return it? I mean, seriously, I spent years doing nothing on weekends (3 hours of learning Mandarin on Saturdays from the age of 6 to the age of 14 does not count as doing ‘something’ because I would have much rather had been drinking acid or something more fun.

And now, suddenly, I have plans. Like actual plans. I’m kinda impressed (with the fact that I have actual plans). Check it out:

Friday – The day that my new doll should be arriving!*
Friday/Saturday – C’s birthday/sleepover party**
Saturday – Potentially volunteering***, date with Clay****
Sunday – Attending a parade with friends
Monday – Day of rest (it’s a long weekend because August 1 is BC Day), sleeping in

* She was released by customs at ~8am and arrived at the postal sorting centre at about 10am today. And since parcels are driven around by trucks rather than delivered by the normal mail carriers – I’m hoping she arrives tomorrow! I even have a bunny-earred hat waiting for her! (Sophie gets one too, in a different colour.)  I realize this isn’t really a “thing to do”, but I’m still super excited about her arrival!

** Chances of me writing anything tomorrow or Saturday is slim to none. I’ll try though! But doubt I’ll get any time to write, at least not on Friday.

*** Not sure yet. G said I didn’t have to go in, since I’m quite good with showing up regularly and I let them know whenever I don’t show up. She said she’d understand if I don’t show up, and she’ll just have to tell the charmers that I’m busy with another guy, hah.

**** Not sure yet. Depends on his work schedule. Boo.

More crafting is also in my schedule. As well as not doing a whole hell of a lot. I still need to wrap stuff tonight, for tomorrow. So I’m going to go off and do that. Maybe watch some tv, or just sit in front of a fan to cool down. It was 38 C today when I was leaving work. So hot… The nice thing about it being a long weekend is that more people will be taking the day off tomorrow (and Tuesday!). Everyone else that I share my general office space with is gone on vacation, so I’m going to get the entire space to myself. Which is rather nice, I’d love to have all that space to myself!

The downside is that I’m going to have to drive to Building B tomorrow. In a car that I’ve driven… twice so far? Yeah, that’s going to be swell. I’m concerned with the parking, but the driving should be okay. The times that I have driven that car, I stayed in my fairly well. I’m crossing my fingers for doing remotely well tomorrow in that car. Hopefully.

Questions:

  1. What do you have planned for this weekend?
  2. When’s the last time that you were tracking something in the mail that was coming to you?
